Guillermo J. Garcia, M.D., passed away peacefully on August 13, 2017, at Peace Care St. Ann’s. Born in Chinandega, Nicaragua, following his graduation from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Nicaragua School of Medical Science, Dr. Garcia came to the United States to pursue his medical career, which was his passion.
On October 4, 1958, Dr. Garcia was selected by the Rotary Club of Nicaragua to commence his medical internship at the Bayonne Hospital, where he met his future wife, Elizabeth, a Registered Nurse with the Hospital. He then served his residency at the Jersey City Medical Center. Dr. Garcia was affiliated with St. Francis Hospital, Jersey City, St. Mary’s Hospital, Hoboken, Riverside Hospital, Secaucus, Christ Hospital, Jersey City, the Stone Center, Newark, U.M.D.N.J, Newark and Bayonne Hospital, Bayonne. He also served as the Medical Examiner of Hudson County.
Dr. Garcia was also the President of the St. Francis Hospital Medical Society, a member of the Hudson County Medical Society, a member of the American Medical Association of NJ, and a member of the Credential Committee at Christ Hospital.
Dr. Garcia practiced medicine for 58 years, with a focus on Pathology and Urology, and became a gifted surgeon. He practiced his lifelong profession up until August 2016, serving patients in Jersey City and Bayonne.
Dr. Garcia is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Garcia (nee: Horgan); his loving children, Kenneth Garcia (Rosa), Brian Garcia (Leslie), Andrew Garcia (Rosa) and Mary Beth Sewald; and his adoring grandchildren, Alex, William, Maria Isabella, Marcus, Olivia and Elizabeth Garcia. He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Josefina (nee: Pallavicini) and Desiderio Garcia; his six dear brothers; and one dear sister.
The funeral will be conducted by Bayonne Memorial Home, Inc. on Saturday, August 19, 2017. A funeral Mass will be held at Blessed Miriam Teresa Parish at St. Andrew the Apostle Church at 10:00 a.m. followed by entombment at Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, August 18, 2017, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Peace Care at St. Ann’s, 198 Old Bergen Road, Jersey City, NJ 07305.
