Eleanor (Bushman) Bonner

Eleanor Bonner (nee: Bushman), 93, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2017, at Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Clare’s Hospital, Dover, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Philadelphia, PA on June 12, 1923, Mrs. Bonner was a resident of Bayonne from 1944 until recently moving to Wharton, NJ, with her daughter Maureen, who was her lifelong, loving caregiver.

She was the head teller at the Commercial Trust Company, Jersey City, for over 20 years.  Upon retiring, she worked as a secretary in Holy Family Academy, Bayonne. She was a member of the Centurians of St. Mary, Star of the Sea, the Holy Family Mothers’ Club and the Marist Mothers’ Club.

Eleanor lived a full and loving life. She was always friendly and outgoing. She answered to many names: Wife, Mom, Sis, Mi and Nana. Eleanor will be sorely missed by her large family and friends.

Mrs. Bonner was predeceased by her beloved husband, Owen; and her loving sons, Owen and Thomas.  She is survived by her beloved children, Michael Bonner (Regina), Sister Owen Patricia, SSJ, Maureen Barbieri (Andrew), and Sister Joette Ebert, OSF; her 12 cherished grandchildren; 17 adoring great grandchildren; her dear daughters-in-law, Mary Bonner and Marilyn Richardson; and her dear sister-in-law, Theresa Clark.  She was also predeceased by her dear brothers, Joseph Bushman and Raymond McCaffery.

The funeral will be conducted by Bayonne Memorial Home, Inc. on Saturday, April 29, 2017.  A funeral Mass will be held at Blessed Miriam Teresa Parish at St. Mary, Star of the Sea Church at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment at Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City.  Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, April 28, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society (cancer.org) or the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
