John J. Murray, 84, passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 after a long, courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. Born in Bayonne, he was a lifelong resident.
Mr. Murray was a retired Bayonne Police Detective, serving the city for 25 years, and also worked for the Boilermakers’ Union Local #28.
Mr. Murray proudly served the nation as a member of the United States Air Force.
Mr. Murray was predeceased by his loving wife, Agnes (nee: Collins), and dear son-in-law, Robert Parks. He was also predeceased by his beloved parents, Margaret and Joseph Murray, and his dear siblings, Joseph and James Murray, Agnes Dougherty, Margaret Kane and Marie Devlin. He was the devoted father of Karen Duffy and her husband, Colin, Maureen Parks, Patrice Caserta and her husband, Patrick, and John Murray, Jr. Mr. Murray was the cherished grandfather of Shannon and Tara Duffy, Bridgette and Kevin Parks, Elizabeth, Francis and John Caserta. He is also survived by his dear sisters, Joan Brown and Dolores Cushing, his sisters-in-law, Rita Hurst and Betty Murray, and brother-in-law, Joe O’Brien. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be conducted by Bayonne Memorial Home, Inc. on Saturday, March 28, 2015. A funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 p.m. at St. Andrew the Apostle Church followed by cremation at Rosehill Crematory, Linden, NJ. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 27, 2015 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Donations may be made to the St. Andrew’s Food Pantry, 125 Broadway, Bayonne, NJ 07002 or the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018.
