Mary Butler (nee: Nugent), 92, of Bayonne, passed away on Sunday, January 10, 2015. Born in Bayonne, she was a resident for many years. She was an executive secretary for Skyline Steel, Kearny.
Mary was a devout parishioner of St. Henry’s Church and a member of its Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Bayonne Senior Center.
In her younger years, Mary was a runway model in New York City.
Mary was also a volunteer at the USO and as a candy striper. She was well traveled and lived in Aruba and the Netherlands. She always loved the simple things: ice cream, walking around Bayonne and Old Milwaukee.
A fiercely independent person, she instilled that quality within her children, and, for that, they will always be grateful.
The family would like to thank Virginia, Nelly and the staff at Cusack Care Center for all the love and compassion shown to Mary.
Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband, William J. Butler. She is survived by her loving children, William (Judy), Patrick (Sondra) and John (Traise) Butler and Mary Ann (Charles) Lisa; her six devoted grandchildren; her two cherished great grandchildren; and her dear brother, Richard Nugent. She was predeceased by her loving parents, Helen (nee: Seymour) and Richard Nugent; and dear siblings, Helen Pitlick and Ethel Leonard.
The funeral will be conducted by Bayonne Memorial Home, Inc. on Wednesday, January 13, 2015. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Henry’s Church at 10:45 a.m. followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
