Shirley A. DuCharme (nee: Hayden) passed away in Lakewood, Tuesday, January 20, 2015, with her family by her side. She was 84. Shirley was born in Philadelphia and grew up in Wilkes-Barre, PA, where she was trained as a Registered Nurse. She came to New Jersey in 1952 and worked initially at the Monroe Calculator Co. in Orange, NJ, where she met her future husband, John. Her 50-year nursing career included work at the SoHo Hospital in Belleville, NJ, nursing home and care facilities in Essex County, Chrill Services in Montclair, NJ, and camp and private-duty nursing in Northeast Pennsylvania.
Shirley was a longtime resident of West Orange before retiring to Sherman, PA, and then Lakewood, NJ. She was known for her life-long love of cats, dogs, and pets of all kinds, horror movies, and her pointed and off-beat sense of humor. She was predeceased by her loving husband John, and survived by her son and daughter-in-law Rick and Nancy, her dear friend Paul Santimauro, and family and friends who loved her.
