Mary E. Murray

Mary E. Murray passed away peacefully on February 29, 2024, at her Bayonne residence surrounded by family.  She was born in Bayonne to the late Mary (nee: Sugrue) and Raymond Murray and was a lifelong resident.  A 1956 graduate of Holy Family Academy and “Pizza Club” member, she was an executive secretary for Barclay’s Bank, New York, prior to retirement.

A devoted parishioner of Blessed Miriam Teresa Parish at St. Mary, Star of the Sea Church, Mary was a member of its Rosary Society and served on various committees, including the liturgy and carnival committees.  She was also deeply involved in the soup kitchen and food pantry.

Mary and her sister, Clare, enjoyed taking road trips and could be found dining out for lunch and dinner all over town.

Mary is survived by her loving nieces and nephew, Susan Dowd, and her husband, Christopher, Robert Murray, and his wife, Andrea, Eileen Powanda, Megan Powanda, and Kathleen Geisler, and her husband, Robert; several dear grandnieces and grandnephews; and the Sugrue, Stewart and McDerby cousins.  She was predeceased by her loving siblings, Raymond Murray, Robert Murray, and his wife, Ann, and Clare Powanda; and her dear niece, Marybeth Powanda.

The funeral will be conducted by Bayonne Memorial Home, Inc. on Monday, March 4, 2024.  A funeral Mass will be held at Blessed Miriam Teresa Parish at St. Mary, Star of the Sea Church at 10:30 a.m. followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.  Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Sunday, March 3, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
