Jay R. Roake passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 26, 2020. He was born in Bayonne to the late Florence (nee: Duffy) and Charles Roake and was a long-time resident prior to relocating to Somerset. He was a phone technician for Verizon in Jersey City for 42 years.
Jay proudly served the nation as a member of the United States Army and was a member of the 101st Airborne Division. He was a member of the Canal Walk Veterans and volunteered for Operation Shoe Box.
Jay is survived by his beloved wife, Ann Marie Roake (nee: McFadden); his cherished children, John, and his wife, Joan Marie, Brian, and his wife, Sue, Thomas, and his wife, Laura, Michael and his wife, Samantha, and Kathleen; his adoring grandchildren, Matthew, Dylan, Katherine, Shaye, Maxwell, Claire, Kendall, Melissa, Gavin and Juliette; and his dear brother-in-law, Thomas McFadden. He was predeceased by his beloved granddaughter, Erin; and his dear siblings, Joan, Charles, Edward, and Margaret.
The funeral will be conducted by Bayonne Memorial Home, Inc. on Thursday, January 30, 2020. A funeral Mass will be held at the Church of St. Henry and 10:45 a.m. A private cremation will follow. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 29, 2020, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Donations may be made to Operation Shoe Box, 152 US 206, Hillsborough, NJ 08844.
