Joseph P. Finnerty passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at Bayonne Medical Center. He was born in Bayonne to the late Dorothy (nee: Murray) and Patrick Finnerty and was a lifelong resident. A Marist graduate, Joe was the chief echocardiogram technician for New York Presbyterian Hospital for 35 years. Prior to his time at New York Presbyterian, he was a hairdresser in Staten Island.
A member of the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Joe served as the primary technician on many high-profile people.
Joe was predeceased by the love of his life of 51 years in July, Ava Jane Finnerty (nee: Jessen). Joe is survived by his loving children, Kristen Scarpelli, and her husband, Anthony, Jill Rokosz, and her husband, Eddie, and Sean Patrick Finnerty, and his wife, Michelle; his cherished grandchildren, Aislinn, Aidan, Owen, Leon, and Gwendolyn; his adoring step grandchildren, Madison and Brandon Rokosz; and his loving sidekick, Teddy.
Joe was the loving brother of William (Rosemary), Kevin (Kristan), James (Carolyn), the late John, the late Daniel, Dottie (Ron Unterman), Patricia, Anne (Bob Graham), Bernadette and the late Mary Elizabeth (Tony Caputo).
Joe is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews; his dear brother-in-law, Christian Jessen (Christine Robertell); and many other extended family members of the Jessen family.
The funeral will be conducted by Bayonne Memorial Home, Inc. on Tuesday, October 5, 2021. A funeral Mass will be held at Blessed Miriam Teresa Parish at St. Mary, Star of the Sea Church at 11:00 a.m. Private cremation will follow.
