Barbara R. Slivka, 77, sadly passed away the early morning of November 9th, 2025.
Born in Jersey City, New Jersey to Dorothy & Sam Kantor, Barbara grew up on Prospect Street - a proud graduate of P.S. #8, Dickinson High School & Jersey City State College.
Barbara spent nearly 20 years teaching at P.S. #12 in Jersey City, where she was known for her warmth, patience & devotion to her students. She later worked at a Hallmark store in NYC, where her kindness & gentle nature continued to touch others.
In 1972, Barbara married her beloved husband, David Slivka - together they shared more than 50 years of life, love & quiet companionship. The traveled, enjoyed Broadway shows in New York City & would never say no to a game of cards. In her later years, Barbara was surrounded by her niece as well as a deeply caring circle of friends who became like family & whose friendship, support & devotion brought Barbara comfort & connection when she needed it most.
Barbara volunteered with the Jewish Community Center delivering meals & as a teacher’s aide in Bayonne. She was a thoughtful, caring person and known for never missing an opportunity to send warm wishes & a lovely greeting card for life’s important moments. She treasured her lifelong friendship & weekly Saturday night phone calls with Doris Rucinski. Barbara is survived by family & dear friends who will miss her gentle presence.

A memorial led by Rabbi Danielle Leshaw will be held at Bayonne Memorial Home on December 20th at 12:30 p.m.
