Charles Dullea Obituary

Charles Dullea passed away on Friday, November 17, 2023 at his Spring Lake Heights residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Jersey City to the late Cecilia (nee: Organek) and Charles Dullea and was a long-time Bayonne resident, prior to relocating to Spring Lake. 

Charles was a senior research scientist for Block Drug and GlaxoSmithKline in Parsippany for over 40 years.  He was also a member of the Screen Actors Guild, having starred in several commercials for the company promoting their products.

He was a devoted parishioner of St. Mary, Star of the Sea Church, Bayonne, and was involved in many areas of the parish including Pee Wee Basketball.  He was a Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Star of the Sea Council #371.

After relocating, Charles became a dedicated parishioner of the Church of St. Rose, Belmar. 

He was a member of the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh.

Charles is survived by his beloved wife, Jane (nee: Gildersleeve) Dullea; his loving children, Madelyn Brown, and her husband, P.J., and Charles Dullea, and his wife, Mary; his adoring grandchildren, Emma Michele, John Charles and James Henry Dullea, and Cormick Charles Brown; and his dear sister, Michele Dullea.

He is also survived by his dear brothers and sisters in-law, Lynn and Peter Torgersen, Richard and Debbie Gildersleeve, Mary Ellen and DC Conry, Joanne and Joe Zanko, Amy and Dennis Lipovsky, Tim and Sue Gildersleeve, and Julie and Rick Boles; his cherished nieces and nephews, Laura and Matthew McGarry, Brian and Catherine Torgersen, Kailen and Kenny Denton, Erin and Shilen Karia, Donny Conry, Joe Conry and Jonathan Sykes, Megan and Devin Veca, Mary Zanko and Tyler Gonlag, Joseph and Janine Zanko, Hope Zanko and Sean Kochel, Dennis and Kat Lipovsky, Cary and Joe Brancaleone, Kevin Lipovsky, Tim, Roger, Kendall and Zoe Gildersleeve, and Amy, Jack and Patrick Boles; and his dear grandnieces and grandnephews, Madelyn, Maureen, Jane, Hannah, Clare, Henry, William, Amelia, Riley, Jocelyn, Dash, Oliver, Millie, Joseph, Jillian, and Christopher.

The funeral will be conducted from O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall on Tuesday, November 21, 2023.  A funeral Mass will held at the Church of St. Rose at 12:00 p.m. Private cremation will follow.  Visitation will take place on Monday, November 20, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.   Charles’ ashes will be interred at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia, at a later date.
