Edward R. Mackiewicz passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at Bayonne Medical Center. He was born in Bayonne to the late Mary (nee: Nowicki) and Sigmund Mackiewicz and was a lifelong resident.
Mr. Mackiewicz was employed by General Cable Corporation, Inland Steel and Maidenform.
A devoted parishioner of St. Mary, Star of Sea Church, he was an usher, a money counter and worked Bingo for the parish.
Mr. Mackiewicz proudly served the nation as a member of the United States Army.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Helen Mackiewicz (nee: McLaughlin); cherished daughter, Joyce Collins; and his dear grandchildren, Caitlin Lipyanka and Ashleen Mitchell. He is survived by his loving children, Edward and James Mackiewicz, Catherine Lipyanka, Helen Marie Whitney, and Susan Mitchell; 12 adoring grandchildren; six cherished great grandchildren; his dear sibling Joan Gunshefski; and his dear sister-in-law, Irene Mackiewicz.
The funeral will be conducted by Bayonne Memorial Home, Inc. on Tuesday, July 23, 2024. A funeral Mass will be held at Blessed Miriam Teresa Parish at St. Mary, Star of the Sea Church at 10:00 a.m. followed by entombment at Good Shepherd Mausoleum at St. Gertrude Cemetery. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Monday, July 22, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
