Edward Murphy Obituary

Edward J. Murphy passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at his Bayonne residence at the age of 92.  He was born in Bayonne to the late Catherine (nee: Flynn) and William Murphy and was a lifelong resident.

A graduate of Holy Family Academy, Class of 1946, Mr. Murphy proudly served the nation as a member of the United States Army assigned to the Sasebo military base in Japan from 1946-1947 after the surrender of Japan in World War II.  For his service, he was awarded the WWII Victory and the Army of Occupation Japan medals. After his military service, Mr. Murphy attended St.  Peter’s College and worked for J.P. Morgan Chase in New York City for 43 years where he attained the position of Chief Auditing Officer prior to his retirement. 

He was a devoted, lifelong parishioner of Blessed Miriam Teresa Parish at St. Mary, Star of the Sea Church and was an usher for many years.

Mr. Murphy is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, MaryAnne Murphy (nee: Madonia); his loving children, Maryanne Parks, Edward “Cliff” Murphy, and his wife Kim, Eileen Ettinger, and her husband, Stephen, Catherine Johnson, and her husband, Gregory, and Michael Murphy, and his wife, Anne;  his cherished grandchildren, Michael Parks, Christal Abo, Cheryl Murphy-Pradhan, Charlotte Houlihan, Kevin and Megan Ettinger, and Ryan and Brandon Murphy; his adoring great grandchildren, Aidan, Declan and Madeline.  He was predeceased by his dear siblings, William Murphy, Helen Wruck, and her husband, Melvin, and Sr. Catharine Elizabeth Murphy S.S.J.

Private funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 by Bayonne Memorial Home, Inc. Interment is at Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
