Francis William “Bill” Serafin passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 5, 2023, at Peace Care St. Ann’s. He was born in Bayonne to the late Bernice (nee: Kierney) and Frank Serafin and was a life-long Bayonne resident. Bill grew up on 6th St and started working at his father’s butcher store “Frank’s” at age 7. The butcher shop, a staple of downtown Bayonne for many years, was located on the first floor in the same 4-family building he was raised in. Bill’s children and grandchildren were then raised in the same building.
A graduate of St. Peter’s College, he was a senior probation officer for Hudson County for 36 years and managed the Harrison and Bayonne offices.
Bill was a devoted parishioner of St. Andrew the Apostle Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Star of the Sea Council #371.
He loved horseracing, summers in Avon-by-the-Sea and had his favorite seat at the Norwood Inn where he and his friends and family gathered many Sundays during the summer.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Elizabeth “Betty” (nee: Frescki) Serafin; his beloved children, John Serafin, and Jill Pineiro, and her husband, John; his cherished grandchildren, Samantha and Tyler Serafin; and his sister, Bonnie McGeady.
