Gilberto A. Fernandez

Gilberto A. Fernandez passed away suddenly on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at his Jersey City residence.  He was born in the Dominican Republic to the late Ana Mercedes Lopez and German Fernandez and was a long-time Jersey City resident.  

Gilbert spent 45 years in the grocery store business in Jersey City as an owner and operator.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Germania Abreu; his loving children, William Fernandez, Omar Fernandez, Cynthia Garcia, Emmanuel Fernandez, Gilbert Fernandez and
Galdiel Fernandez; his cherished grandchildren, Kristian Cruz Jr., Mia Cruz and Olivia Fernandez; and his dear siblings, Rafael Fernandez, Germania Fernandez de Caimares, Luz Mercedes Fernandez de Peralta, Diomedes Fernandez, Damaris Fernandez de Reyes, Luz Herminia Fernandez, Bolivar Fernandez, Alvaro Lopez and Aneudys Fernandez. He was predeceased by his dear sibling, Lourdes Fernandez de Peralta.

The funeral will be conducted by Bayonne Memorial Home, Inc. on Monday, December 22, 2025.  A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. followed by entombment at Holy Name Mausoleum, Jersey City.  Visitation will take place on Sunday, December 21, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
