John Patrick Downie

John Patrick Downie passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at his Atlantic Highlands residence surrounded by his family. He was born in Bayonne to the late Ann “Nancy” (nee: Hughes) and Thomas Downie.

John worked as a district retail manager with KB Toys, GameStop, and most recently, Bed Bath & Beyond. He was known for being hardworking and dedicated, and he took pride in the work he did. He enjoyed the beach, fishing, the racetrack and his two french bulldogs, but most of all, he loved his family.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Jacqueline (nee: Kenny) Downie; his loving children, John Patrick Downie, Jr. and Caitlyn Downie; his mother-in-law, Mary “Botch” Kenny; his dear siblings, Peggy Garvey, Thomas Downie, Jr. his wife, Marybeth Downie, Mary Harrington, Eileen Bocchino, her husband, Thomas Bocchino; his sister-in-law Joyce Charmello, her husband Nick Charmello, brother-in-law, James “Packer” Kenny, his wife Renee Kenny, his brother in law, Mark Kenny, his wife Karen Kenny; and  many loving nieces, nephews and his two french bulldogs, Bentley and Kole. John was also predeceased by his two brother-in-laws, Mark Harrington and John Kenny.

The funeral will be conducted by Bayonne Memorial Home, Inc. on Monday, August 25, 2025.  A funeral Mass will be held at Blessed Miriam Teresa Parish at St. Mary, Star of the Sea Church at 10:00 a.m.  Private cremation will follow.  Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Sunday, August 24, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in John’s name to the American Diabetes Association.
