John “Jack” W. Condon passed away peacefully on August 30, 2025, at his Bayonne residence. He was born in Bayonne to the late Violet (nee: Carter) and James P. Condon and was a lifelong Bayonne resident. Jack was chief lineman for PSE&G for 38 years prior to retirement.
Jack proudly served the nation as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War and was overseas in Korea for 16 months. He was a member of the Catholic War Veterans Post 1612.
Jack loved sports and played them all his life. He grew up playing basketball, baseball and softball for the C.Y.O teams, P.A.L., Build Better Boys and the recreation department. He was a member of P.P. Sweeney’s 1953 County Championship team and continued to play softball for over 40 years with St. Michael’s Cadets, the 50/50 Club and Folgers. He also played in the bocci league for over 30 years.
A devoted catholic and family man, Jack was a member of the St. Andrew’s Holy Name Society, where he was an annual reward recipient for his service. He was also a member of the Holy Family Fathers’ Club for 29 years and volunteered for over 22 years at St. John’s Soup Kitchen in Newark.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife, Leona Condon (nee: Parente); his loving children, John G. Condon, and his wife, Kelly, and Donna L. Condon, and her husband, Ray Spengler; his cherished grandchildren, Madison, Skyler and Mason Condon; and his dear siblings, Elsie Buban, Barbara McNulty, Violet Stray, Patricia Cain, and Rita Kiernan. He was predeceased by his dear siblings, James Condon, Catherine Condon, Margaret Regan, Alice Fitzgerald and Florence Murphy.
The funeral will be conducted by Bayonne Memorial Home, Inc. on Thursday, September 4, 2025. A funeral Mass will be held at Blessed Miriam Teresa Parish at St. Mary, Star of the Sea Church, at 11:00 a.m. Private cremation will follow. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
