Jordan V. Spuma passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at home, surrounded by his loving family. A lifelong resident of Bayonne, he was born to the late Florence (nee: Foster) and Jordan Spuma.
Jordan proudly served the nation as a member of the United States Marine Corps, in Guantanamo Bay, during the Korean War. He was active in the American Legion Post #19, the Knights of Columbus, Star of the Sea Council #371, and honored to serve as a Commander of the F.A. Mackenzie Post in Bayonne from 1981-82.
His beloved wife, Mary (nee: Byrne) predeceased him in 2020, after 67 years of marriage. Together, they cherished family gatherings, Mass at St. Andrew’s, senior bus trips and special events and getaways to their shore house in Toms River.
They especially coveted quiet times at First Street Park, sharing a coffee and bagel, while sitting in their car watching container ships traverse the Kill Van Kull.
“George” or “Sonny”, as Jordan was known to be called, received a degree of Engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken and was employed by the Port Authority PATH Train Service as an electrical engineer.
Many hobbies occupied Jordan in his retirement: from growing vegetables from seed, to fishing and hunting, to expertly carving decoys and figures, to painting birdhouses to gift to the family he so loved.
Jordan was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary (nee: Byrne) Spuma; and his loving daughter, Marybeth Reynolds. He is survived by his beloved children, Gail Gareffa (Alfred), Maureen Fontanarosa (Robert), Patricia Andreczski (Joseph), William Spuma (Maria) and Jordan Spuma (Robyn DeMarco); his cherished grandchildren, Bryanna, Billy, Maureen, Sharon, Jennifer, Patrice, Michael, Justin, Carson and Ivy; his cherished great grandchildren, Jack, Sammi, Logan, Dylan, Devin, Edison, Iris, Mason, Madison and Jackson; his dear siblings, Raymond Spuma (Lorraine) and Barbara Schaadt; and his loving son-in-law, George Reynolds. He was also predeceased by his dear siblings, Victoria Spuma and Geraldine Bauch.
The funeral will be conducted by Bayonne Memorial Home, Inc. on Tuesday, December 9, 2025. A funeral Mass will be held at Blessed Miriam Teresa Parish at St. Mary, Star of the Sea Church at 10:00 a.m. followed by entombment at Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum, North Arlington. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Monday, December 8, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
