Julie Kapec (nee: Halloy) passed away peacefully at her Bayonne residence on Monday, July 17, 2023, surrounded by her family. Born in the quaint town of Couvin, Belgium to the late Therese and Jules Halloy, Julie lived under the Nazi occupation of Belgium from 1940 to 1945.
During the Second World War, she met her husband, Wesley A. Kapec, who had served in the United States Army Signal Corps.
Julie and Wesley married in Belgium in August of 1946. She then traveled to America and her new home in Bayonne. She worked diligently to master English and became so proficient that she routinely beat her native born friends in Scrabble.
Julie worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Weiner, Dr. Levine, and Dr. Cohn. She regularly chastised her family to maintain good oral hygiene.
Julie annually hosted exchange students and chaperones from Bayonne, France and enjoyed showing them the sites of New York. She loved volunteering at Bayonne Hospital as well as attending her Golden Ages Club meetings. Julie was passionate about her knitting and painting. Each holiday, family members would receive a crochet or knitted item with love.
She was an avid Bingo and card player.
Julie was predeceased by her beloved husband, Welsey A. Kapec; and her dear sister-in-law, Mary Kapec. She is survived by her loving daughter, Janice Lo Re, and her husband, Vincent Lo Re, Jr.; her cherished grandson, Dr. Vincent Lo Re III, and his wife, Dr. Serena Cardillo; and her adoring great grandchildren, Sophia and Siena Lo Re.
The funeral will be conducted by Bayonne Memorial Home, Inc. on Monday, July 24, 2023. A funeral Mass will be held at the Church of St. Henry at 10:45 a.m. following by interment at Evergreen Cemetery, Hillside. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Monday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
