Mary (Anan) Benford

Mary Benford (nee: Anan), 94, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 7, 2021, at Complete Care, Westfield. She was born in Jersey City to the late Pauline (nee: Gengerjian) and Joseph Anan and resided in Bayonne most of her life.

Mary was the housekeeper at St. Andrews Rectory for many years.  She was a member of the St. Andrew’s Rosary Society, served as a Lector and took care of the church’s Altar linens. She was also a member of the Mothers’ Club at Holy Family Academy. 

She was a great baker and was known for her oatmeal cookies.

Mrs. Benford was predeceased by her beloved husband, Michael (Mickey).  She is survived by her loving children, Kathy Belisky (Alan), Dianne Osaben (John), Mary Halma (Bill), Jane Halma (Chris) and Michael Benford (Diana); ten adoring grandchildren; nine cherished great grandchildren; and dear brother, John Anan.  She was also predeceased by her dear brother, Joseph Anan.

The funeral will be conducted by Bayonne Memorial Home, Inc.  on Friday, June 11, 2021. A funeral Mass will be offered at the Parish of Blessed Miriam Teresa at St. Andrew the Apostle Church at 12:30 p.m. followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Friday morning from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
