H. Mickey McCabe passed away on Monday, June 19, 2023, at Monmouth Medical Center, after a long battle with lung disease. He was born in Bayonne to the late Anne (nee: Lyons) and Harold McCabe and was a long-time resident of Bayonne and Monmouth Beach.
A devoted civil servant of the City of Bayonne, Mickey, alongside his wife Judy, started McCabe Ambulance Company and operated the firm for over 50 years.
He was a co-founder and the first Chairperson of the Board of BCB Community Bank.
Mickey was a founding member of the Bayonne St. Patrick’s Parade Committee and was honored as Grand Marshal in 2007.
His service and devotion to the community were recognized in countless ways throughout the years by numerous organizations.
Mickey is survived by his loving wife, Judith (nee: Prout) McCabe; his beloved daughter, Allison Matto, and her husband, Joseph, and their children, Grace and Emily Matto ; his beloved son, Michael McCabe, and his wife, Tina, and their children, Maddie, Luke, Aiden and Lia McCabe; his loving sister, Karen, DelGuercio, and her late husband, David ; and his dear brother-in-law, Donald Prout, and his wife, Deb.
The funeral will be conducted by Bayonne Memorial Home, Inc. on Friday, June 23, 2023. A funeral Mass will take place at St. Vincent de Paul Church at 11:00 a.m. A private cremation will follow. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 and Thursday, June 22, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
