Philomena M. Coco

Philomena M. Coco (nee: Sanzo) passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at Care Point Health at Bayonne Medical Center. She was born in Bayonne to the late Rose (nee: Conti) and Salvatore Sanzo and was a lifelong Bayonne resident.

Philomena was the Director of Religious Education at the Parish of Blessed Miriam Teresa Demjanovich, where she prepared hundreds of children for the preparation of their sacraments.  She spent her life in education teaching at St. Mary, Star of the Sea School in Bayonne and St. Benedict’s in Newark.

She was predeceased by her husband Anthony in 2020. She is survived by her son Mark, her stepsons, Anthony, Jr. and Ronnie Coco; and her siblings, Sr. Frances, Maria, Vito, Daniel, Salvatore and Anthony Sanzo.

A Memorial Mass will be held at Blessed Miriam Teresa Parish at St. Mary, Star of the Sea Church on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. followed by the inurnment of Philomena’s ashes at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle New Jersey Veterans Cemetery.
