William “Bill” Kataryniak passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at Old Bridge Medical Center. He was born in Bayonne to the late Veronica (nee: Hancher) and Joseph Kataryniak and was a lifelong resident. A 1953 mechanical engineering graduate of Stevens Institute of Technology, he enjoyed a 40+ year career with Gibbs and Cox, New York, and served as a design superintendent on the guided missile destroyer, Arleigh Burke, just prior to retirement.
Bill proudly served in the United States Navy from 1955-1959, where he served at the U.S Naval Ship Repair Facility in Yokosuka, Japan. He continued his service in the US Naval Reserve through 1982 and achieved the rank of Commander.
He was a proud member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church community and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Star of the Sea Council #371.
Bill was predeceased by his loving wife, Reba (nee: Jordan). He is survived by his loving children, Mark William Kataryniak, and his wife, Lucy, Steven John Kataryniak, and his wife, Anna, and Paula Anne Jordan, and her husband, Dan Cronk; and his seven adoring grandchildren, Matthew, Nicholas, Thomas, Natalie, and Alexander Kataryniak, and Daniel and Connor Cronk. He was also predeceased by his longtime companion, Elizabeth Fedorocsko (Grandma Betty).
The funeral will be conducted by Bayonne Memorial Home, Inc. on Tuesday, May 13, 2025. A funeral service will be held at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Monday, May 12, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Parastas will be at 7:00 p.m.
