Harold E. "Buddy" Demellier

Harold E. “Buddy” Demellier, Jr., 68, of Bayonne and Seaside Park, passed away on Monday, May 23, 2016, in New York City.  Born in Weehawken, he was a lifelong Hudson County resident and spent a great deal of time at a second home in Seaside Park.

The valedictorian of his class at North Bergen High School, Buddy attended Rutgers University on a basketball scholarship and earned a Master’s Degree from N.Y.U.

He proudly served the nation as a member of the United States Army.

Buddy was currently the Deputy Hudson County Administrator and the Director of the Hudson County Roads and Public Property Department.  A long-time political consultant in Hudson County, Buddy ran the campaigns of former Jersey City Mayor Jeremiah Healy and former Bayonne Mayor Mark Smith and also played a crucial role in the campaigns and eventual elections of former Governor Jim McGreevey and current Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise.  Buddy served as Chief of Staff for former Jersey City Mayors Gerry McCann and Jeremiah Healy and former Bayonne Mayor, Leonard Kiczek.  He also served as City Business Administrator in Bayonne, West New York and Byram Township (Sussex County). He was lifelong member of Elks, North Arlington Lodge 1992, and a former member of the Guttenberg Volunteer Fire Department.

Buddy is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Janis (nee: Wiergac) Demellier; his beloved father, Harold E. Demellier, Sr.; his dear siblings, Joseph Demellier (Janet) and Claire Cook (John); his cherished nephews, John and Mark Cook and Joseph Demellier; his loving niece, Adair Sullivan; several loving grandnieces and grandnephews; his dear sister-in-law, Judith Sullivan; and his loving companions, Lexus and Oliver.  He was predeceased by his beloved mother, Florence (nee: McKevitt) Demellier.

The funeral will be conducted by Bayonne Memorial Home, Inc. on Friday, May 27, 2016.  A funeral Mass will be held at the Parish of St. John Paul II at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 11:00 a.m.  A private cremation will follow.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bayonne Athletic Fund, 667 Avenue A, Bayonne, NJ 07002.
