William A. Gaughan

William A. Gaughan, 78, passed away peacefully at his residence on October 18, 2016, with his loving family at his side.  Born in Wilkes Barre, PA, he was a resident of Hudson County since 1964.

Mr. Gaughan was a funeral director and co-owner of Houghton Funeral Home. 

He was the longest serving Councilperson in Jersey City and the former Chief of Staff for the County of Hudson.

Mr. Gaughan was also the co-founder of Hudson Hospice.

He proudly served the nation as a member of the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Gaughan is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Bernadette (nee: Krull); his loving daughter, Bridget Gaughan Ludlow; his cherished grandson, James William Gaughan Dickson; his dear sister, Doreen Stabile;his dear son-in-law, Richard Ludlow; and many loving nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his dear parents, Bridget (nee: Kennedy) and Anthony Gaughan; his beloved daughter, Eileen “Beanie;” and his dear sister, Ann Marie Jewell.

The funeral will be conducted by Bayonne Memorial Home, Inc. on Saturday, October 22, 2016.  A funeral Mass will be held at 10:45 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 511 Pavonia Avenue, Jersey City, followed by interment at Hillside Cemetery, Lyndhurst.  Visitation will be held at St. Joseph’s Church on Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  The family asks that flowers be omitted.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hudson Hospice (www.hudsonhospice.org/), St. Joseph’s Church, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org) or the National Alliance for Mental Illness (www.nami.org/).
