John T. Gannon, Sr., 90, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at Bayonne Medical Center. Born in Bayonne, he was a lifelong resident. He was a retired operations engineer for the Port Authority of NY/NJ. Mr. Gannon was a graduate of St. Andrew’s School and Holy Family Academy. He was a devoted parishioner of St. Andrew’s Parish and a member of the Holy Name Society.
A Purple Heart recipient, Mr. Gannon proudly served the nation as a member of the United States Army during World War II. During his war time service, he was part of a team that liberated concentration camps at the end of the war and was also involved in the D-Day invasion.
Mr. Gannon was predeceased by his beloved wife, Eileen Gannon (nee: Sullivan). He is survived by his beloved children, Maryanne Rosenberg (the late Glenn) and Dr. John Gannon, Jr. (Karen); his adoring grandchildren, Holly, Sherri, Jason and Justin Rosenberg, and Cara, Courtney and John T. Gannon III; and his dear siblings, Claire Gannon, Terry McHugh and William Gannon (Mary).
The funeral will be conducted by Bayonne Memorial Home, Inc. on Friday, April 10, 2015. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Andrew the Apostle Church at 11:00 a.m. followed by entombment at Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum, North Arlington. Visitation will be held on Friday morning from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
